Experts explain how patients can take advantage of winter features to perform aesthetic procedures
There is no right time to have plastic surgery, as a number of factors influence this decision. However, if you are free to choose a time of year for this type of surgery, winter is one of the best options.

“In winter, sun exposure is less frequent and UV radiation rates are lower. In this way, recovery tends to be a little faster and the risk of post-procedural spots decreases. This is because these complications arise due to the patient’s poor care of the sun in the post-operative period,” explains plastic surgeon Dr. Denis Bürguer, member of the Brazilian Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAPS).
In addition, the mild weather of the season is another great advantage for performing plastic surgery in winter. “This is because high temperatures favor the appearance of swelling, especially in patients who already have a predisposition to fluid retention. On the other hand, cold reduces the body’s inflammatory response. In addition to reducing edema, this reduces postoperative discomfort in the surgical region,” adds Denis.
The procedures that stand out during the season
And virtually all plastic surgeries benefit from these winter features. But some procedures are especially interesting to perform this season. This is the case with the FaceLift or facelift, since, due to its apparent position, the face tends to be more exposed to the sun.
“The facelift, when performed through an innovative technique known as the Deep Plane, allows rejuvenation without pulling the skin, but through the manipulation of the internal structures, which are sculpted without creating that dreaded operated look. Therefore, the Deep Plane provides a more natural and effective rejuvenation, as it treats all the layers that show aging,” explains the plastic surgeon.
Performing body surgeries, such as tummy tuck and liposuction, is also a great option in the winter, especially for those who want to get ready for the summer. “All plastic surgeries have a recovery period for the final result to appear, so you need to plan and perform the procedure in advance to fully recover when summer arrives,” says the specialist.
Additionally, cold weather provides greater comfort when wearing compression garments, which are necessary during the postoperative period of many body surgeries to help shape the body and control swelling after surgery. “Patients use compression shirts correctly when they feel comfortable, which contributes to better results,” says the doctor.
Technology associated with station differentials
In the case of liposuction, it is possible to further facilitate the patient’s recovery by opting for new technologies, such as Renuvion. It can deliver low, medium and high definition liposuction results accurately and safely.
“In this scenario, Renuvion technology emerges as a revolutionary solution, offering a minimally invasive treatment that combines helium plasma energy with radiofrequency,” explains functional plastic surgeon Cintia Rios.
“This process results in controlled heating of the tissues, promoting contraction and stimulation of collagen, improving sagging skin and providing a firmer, more defined result,” adds the doctor.
According to the plastic surgeon, the technology allows for a significant improvement in skin quality, with the patient’s perception of less flaccidity and more firmness, with longer-lasting results when combined with a healthier lifestyle.
Winter is also the best time to have hair transplant done.
In addition to body and face procedures, hair transplantation also benefits from the characteristics of winter. According to beautician Dr. Amanda Sodré, the time is ideal to perform the method, as there will be swelling in the operated area, as well as less discomfort with post-operative sweat.
But that’s not all, during the winter there is also a reduction in the ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun which can be problematic in this situation and burn the scalp. “Furthermore, cold weather also contributes to recovery and decreases post-operative discomfort,” adds the specialist.
Although climatic conditions are favorable for protecting hair follicles, there are some recommendations for this moment in the postoperative period. Professional Highlights:
- Protect yourself with a cap or hat;
- Stay hydrated so you don’t dry out your scalp, as it can harm the healing process and healthy growth;
- Use sunscreen in the operating area;
- Avoid scratching or rubbing the scalp for the first 30 days.
According to Amanda, a big question when considering the procedure is whether the transplanted hair will fall out again. The expert explains that since they are removed from an area where they are not affected by the hormone DHT (responsible for hair loss), they are permanent hair.
