Musician Arlindo Cruz, 64, was hospitalized again at the Casa de Saúde São José, in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro, on 5 August. The information was confirmed by the hospital’s press office, which said it will not release a bulletin on the artist’s state of health.
Less than 20 days after being discharged, Arlindo Cruz was diagnosed with bacterial mumps. According to Babi Cruz, the singer’s wife, the hospitalization was due to swelling in the jaw, which suggested the presence of mumps. “It was bacterial mumps. He’s on meds and his vitals are as good as possible,” she told G1.
Pneumonia recovery in July
Last month, Arlindo spent 20 days in the same hospital being treated for pneumonia. He was in the intensive care unit (ICU) and was discharged on July 23rd. The sambista’s family celebrated his recovery on social media, with daughter Flora Cruz writing, “The love of my life is back home.”
Health problems and treatments
Arlindo Cruz has faced several health issues since suffering a hemorrhagic stroke in March 2017, when he was hospitalized for nearly a year and a half. In the last five years, the sambista has undergone 14 surgeries, including five on the head, as well as having suffered a pulmonary embolism. He is currently undergoing physiotherapy and speech therapy sessions. Babi Cruz highlighted Arlindo’s recovery, despite some obstacles, and expressed a willingness to start over and give moments of love to her husband.
In October last year, Arlindinho, the singer’s son, revealed that the family spends around R$12,000 a month to maintain his father’s care. He also mentioned a procedure to unclog veins in the brain, stating eight veins were blocked and six have recovered.
