Today we are serially spoiled: dragons, nuns, fairy tale witches, funny scientists, presidents, vice presidents and someone who looks like Jesus are vying for our attention. Things were completely different in the 90s, when the series became the best encyclopedia of life and its characters became your friends and role models. So, who do you prefer in the series of the 90s: Dylan and Brandon (of course, Dylan!), Nicolas or Etienne, Dawson or Pacey?
Beverly Hills 90210
In your youth no one thought about the meaning of the numbers 90210, and this is just a hint, and if this is your hint, consider that you are already in the realm of the rich and famous. From Russian schoolboys wandering through school to snowdrifts, this world of the 90s series was a long way off, something like Jupiter, and maybe another galaxy, but nonetheless we followed the life of the golden youth of Los Angeles. Who will Dylan end up with, Brenda or Kelly? We, of course, were for Brenda, she’s so cute. But what about funny know-it-all Andrea, will they get along with Brandon? In addition to all these school experiences, the series raised important topics – alcohol, domestic violence, anti-Semitism, AIDS, teenage pregnancy, suicide. We may not realize it, but many facilities are still with us.

“Melrose Square”
“Melrose Place” was invented by the same person as “Beverly Hills” – Darren Star. At first, it was a series about young people living in Los Angeles, as if the guys from Beverly Hills had grown up and moved on. The main characters lived next door, made friends, fought, tried to build a career and find love. And it would be fine, but they decided to add an asset to the series – “owner” Amanda Woodworth (played by the beautiful Heather Locklear). Amanda has slept with every male character that has appeared on screen, handsome Dr. Michael Mancini has been married seven times, a porn star has starred on the show, and schizophrenic Kimberly blew up the house the whole family is in. world lived and also tried to lobotomize one of the characters with a hand drill (without drugs, of course). I don’t even know why parents let their kids watch it. The series ended in 1999, around the time Darren Star took over Sex and the City, but that’s another story.
“Dawson’s Creek”
Dawson’s Creek gave the world James van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams, as well as the wonderful world of teenagers living in a fictional seaside town. Remember? Joey is in love with Dawson, Dawson is in love with Jen, but in the end he sees Joey at a beauty contest and realizes that she is the girl of his dreams. What can be described in one sentence spanned an entire season, which ended with a kiss. In general, it was a touching and naive season – what teenage girls need. He only came up with a not very functional scheme: if you wear makeup and put on an evening dress, your prince will notice you immediately. We were all about to learn that life is a little different from the 90s TV show.
“Ellen and the Boys”
Did you cover the tune of “Helen and the Boys” on the piano? Did you make a call? This means that you were also captivated by this French series, which was also about a group of friends, but with a particular national charm. The students Nicolas, Etienne and Christian meet Helen, Katie and Joanna and immediately pair up. The students of them are like that, because instead of studying, they constantly hang out in a cafe, in the guys’ garage (they rehearse there) or go to the gym. But at the same time, no one gets drunk, smokes, takes drugs – in general, it seems that parents made a series about ideal children, just a little lazy.
“Marvels of Science”
“Wonders of Science” is, so to speak, the realized fantasies of all insecure teenagers. See for yourself – two nerd friends who are harassed by everyone and have no chance of getting a girlfriend create a super hot cyber woman who (watch out!) fulfills all their desires! Simply put, he’s such a cyber genius, but only in the form of beauty Lisa. Why not fantasy? However, the girls were also interested in how it would all end.
“Alph”
The cutest alien in the world is, of course, Alf from the planet Melmak. Yes, he is terribly capricious, constantly rude, eats a lot and loves cats, but not in the universal human sense, but in the culinary sense, because on his planet cats are considered a delicacy, and one of the 10 main organs of the body. ‘Alpha body, 8 organs are stomachs. He is 260 years old and one of the few living Melmac residents. His spaceship crashes into the garage of the Tanners, an ordinary American family, and he ends up living with them. All they have to do is hide the alien from prying eyes (which is difficult) and hide Lucky the alien’s cat. The whole series is based on these two plots.
“Charm”
And now for the magic – ‘Charmed’, a series about three witch sisters: Prue, Piper and Phoebe. It was originally intended that the witches would not be sisters, but neighbors, but one of the producers wanted to add a pinch of family values to the cauldron. The action takes place in San Francisco, where two older sisters live peacefully and quietly, until the younger one arrives and finds the Book of Sacraments in the attic. Of course, she immediately casts a spell, the sisters gain superpowers – and off they go! Soon after, the sisters learn that their maternal ancestors were witches and that, according to the prophecy, it will be the three sisters who will become the greatest good witches in the history of magic. Now they must fight evil creatures and protect the innocent.
“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”
Another 90s teen favorite is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This series made famous Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the warrior. It all starts with Buffy burning down the gymnasium, which was full of vampires, and she has to move with her mother to the small town of Sunnydale. The move, of course, brings new adventures: the former master vampire plots the end of the world, and Buffy herself falls in love with an angel – a vampire with a human soul. In general, fun and lots and lots of vampires.
“Friends”
Last on the list, but truly the first, best, and one of a kind is Friends. A sitcom that looks like every other sitcom, but is completely different. Six Emmys and Golden Globes, fan clubs around the world, a change of language, a new fashion, a hairstyle named after Rachel. It is not a series, but a cultural phenomenon that has changed the lives of many people. At the start of the series, Rachel leaves her fiancé right at the altar and moves in with her high school friend Monica. Chandler and Joey live in the apartment across the street. The four are friends with Monica’s brother, Ross (who recently divorced his wife, who turned out to be a lesbian) and with Phoebe, a girl with no specific profession, Monica’s former neighbor. And so they live, long or short, ten seasons.
Studies of the first eight seasons by University of Toronto philologists have shown the impact the series has had on modern English. So, before the series, the most popular auxiliary words that enhance emotional coloring were the adverbs very or really, and under the influence of the speech of the heroes of the series, the adverb thus became more popular, and the hairstyle of Rachel has become so popular that it even bears her name. The first Starbucks stores in New York opened the same year as Friends. Iranian businessman Mokhtaba Asadin used the idea and design of the Central Coffee House when he decided to open the Central Perk franchise in 2006. Since the end of the series, rumors have continued to appear on the Web about a sequel, then about a feature film, but in the end they remain only rumors!
