A convenience store, opened last May in Ipanema, in the south of Rio, successfully sells “marijuana ice cream”, prepared with matcha and cannabis terpenes, substances present in plants, responsible for imparting smell, taste and therapeutic effects.
Company partner Marco Arioli explains that the idea of making this ice cream, sold at the 2V convenience store and delicatessen, came about after observing the profiles of large foreign outlets, such as Japan and the United States, together with his partners.
“At the same time, we were looking at this movement of cannabis dispensaries, which are these shops that sell cannabis in the US and Canada, and how these establishments perform. We really wanted to bring this concept here in some way. , “We discovered this terpene problem and from there we had the insight to create a product that was pop and had legal commercial acceptance. We spent about a year developing this product, with a very renowned pastry chef in São Paulo. That’s where the idea came from,” he explains.
Cannabis terpenes are substances found in plants and are responsible for giving them their smell and taste. Arioli says he doesn’t mind the nickname “marijuana ice cream” given to the novelty from Rio, which costs R$ 12.90.
“Obviously it’s not marijuana, but terpene is a bit of a technical term, so I think it gets a little more complicated for people to say. We’re doing everything within the law, so if people identify it like that, it’s they find interesting.” and I want to try it, it’s good for us, “she explains.
“It’s not derogatory in any way, but we always make a point of properly explaining the product, which is a cannabis terpene and not marijuana ice cream, because it’s not,” she completes.
Does “marijuana ice cream” sound like a wave?
Due to the unusual taste, many people are curious whether the dessert gives any kind of “wave”.
“Due to the emission of the essential oil and the aroma, the terpene has a therapeutic effect, but does not give any waves. This is because it does not contain THC or CBD, which are the active ingredients of cannabis. So “, he has a therapeutic wave that manifests itself above all with the aroma”, says the owner of the shop.
In addition to the popular cannabis terpene matcha flavor, the shop also sells vanilla ice cream with salted caramel and popcorn topping.
“The matcha one is the one that sells the most, but the other one also has an excellent yield”, says Marco.
So far, the entrepreneur has positively evaluated the impact of the ice cream, considered the flagship product of the establishment.
“The great thing is that people go to the store to learn about this product and end up learning about our pokes and other products that are also very nice. The ice cream has been a bait for the positive impact of the store. I liked the taste, I tried it, I found it different and I accepted it very well,” he adds.
