New era of masculinity: plastic surgery is gaining ground among men

Men are realizing that it’s okay to want to improve their looks and that self-care isn’t just for women, explains the plastic surgeon

In recent years there has been a significant transformation in male beauty standards and in the way men view physical appearance. With the advent of social networks, men have become more vain and are increasingly seeking aesthetic procedures to improve their self-esteem, confidence and quality of life.

“The growing influence of media and social media also plays a role in the popularization of plastic surgery among men. With the growing attention to aesthetics and physical appearance, many men feel more pressure to meet modern beauty standards.”explains plastic surgeon Dr. Tacitus Ferreiramember of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.

“It is a new era of masculinity, in which less invasive aesthetic procedures and plastic surgery acquire great importance to provide transformative aesthetic results. But men have very clear their desires: on the face they want discreet results that represent naturalness, enhancing the beauty, while in the interventions on the body they appreciate the high definition liposuction”continues.

Masculinity and self-care

The doctor explains that, for decades, men have been socially conditioned to repress any concern about their physical appearance, fearing being labeled “vain” or “effeminate”.

“However, this mentality is gradually giving way to a more open and inclusive approach to beauty and body care. Men are realizing that it is okay to want to improve their appearance and that self-care is not a prerogative of women. women.”says the plastic surgeon.

Thus, according to the doctor, injectable facial procedures such as botulinum toxin, collagen biostimulators and fillers have played a vital role in deconstructing gender stereotypes associated with beauty. They want to get results without too much downtime and, preferably, without seeming “procedural”.

The effects of male aesthetic treatments

“Injectable facial treatments seek to improve the angulation and demarcation of the jawline, to promote well-defined contours. Mentoplasty, chin surgery, is also very popular for improving the harmony of the face and profile”says Doctor Tacitus.

“In the body, in addition to the traditional gyno surgery (a condition that causes breast enlargement in men), more and more men are opting for procedures such as abdominoplasty, liposuction, and most importantly girdle surgery, which involves the improvement of body contour in the abdomen region and hips Men generally have more fat accumulation in this region for hormonal reasons”says the expert.

According to the doctor, by correcting characteristics that previously caused discomfort or insecurity, many men experience an improvement in their personal and professional lives – and in many cases improve their lifestyles to maintain the result.

“This happens especially in cases of body surgery such as high definition liposuction, which reduces fat and improves muscle definition. Many men adopt good lifestyle habits, such as diet and exercise, prolonging the results”explains the expert.

Finally, the doctor points out that aesthetic procedures require care. “The ideal is to seek a certified plastic surgeon for better evaluation and indication of the procedure”concludes Dr. Tacito.
