The bricklayer Isaias dos Santos, from Sumaré, in São Paulo, has decided to put its house up for sale and has launched an appeal through graffiti. The rush has a reason, she needs the money to pay for a surgery needed for her condition: “This is a cry for help,” reads an excerpt from the message.
“I have a problem with my spine. Only surgery can solve this problem. I have been suffering from pain for 2 years. The drugs that the doctors prescribe are no longer effective. I have tried to appeal in all possible ways. I am going to ” The UPA several times and nothing fixes the problem. I am selling my house to have surgery. The surgery cost R $ 100,000.00. This is a cry for help,” the resident wrote.
Keep the cards that demonstrate the passage through different doctors, both in the public and in the private network. In April of last year an examination indicated the urgency of the intervention, which was sometimes refused.
“I’ve been living this life for two years, I don’t go anywhere anymore, only indoors. […] I need surgery for a herniated disc and loss of cartilage in my spine. The doctor said he had to put a pin in my spine because I had lost all the cartilage,” the man complained in an interview with TV Globo affiliate EPTV.
In November 2022, a doctor even approached Unicamp hospital to have the procedure done. The request was also accepted by the Neurology Center, but the surgery did not take place.
“The doctor said: ‘Isaías, this surgery is to make you smile, to walk, not to work harder. At the end of the year, it will be two years since I’ve been in this situation. I feel abandoned by Sumaré, I’ve already run everywhere , I’ve asked for help everywhere and they do nothing,” he says.
Isaias lives alone and relies on the help of his family, especially his sister, to complete his daily tasks. In addition to family members, the bricklayer also counts on the help of neighbors to keep the house in order and look for medicines, for example. Isaias currently walks very little indoors, always with the help of a crutch.
The complaint was requested to the Department of Health of the city of Sumaré, which has not yet responded to the investigation. The space remains open.
