The treatment of hair loss requires a diagnosis by a dermatologist, in fact there are many types of alopecia, which can be genetic or induced, for example, and telogen effluvium, intense hair loss due to an associated problem (such as diet or stress).
“In addition to the oxidative stress that also affects the hair bulb, alopecia includes cellular aging localized in the hair follicle of the dermis and in the subcutaneous tissue, which in turn is affected by a physiological decline in cellular functions. Therefore, to cure it, we must also think about ‘rejuvenating’ the skin of the scalp, stimulating cell and collagen multiplication to improve the anchoring of the threads”, he explains. Brazilian Liliadoctor specialized in Hair Medicine, member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology and coordinator and speaker in events on hair treatments.
To fill this gap, an injectable hyaluronic acid enriched with various nutrients is already available in Brazil to treat baldness.
“With the treatment, we have managed to promote the antioxidant action in the cells of the dermis, including the endothelial cells, the stimulation of cell metabolism and hydration, as well as follicular renewal, keratin formation, as well as the synthesis of different hormones for the production of vitamin B3, essential for the health of the capillaries by regulating growth based on the hair cycle”, adds the doctor.
Also used on the skin
According to the dermatologist Renato Soriani, a member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, the injectable, which can also be used on the face to promote skin rejuvenation and revitalization, has a proprietary formula enriched with nutrients. The product (NCTF) combines hyaluronic acid with 12 vitamins, 24 amino acids, 6 enzymes, 5 nucleic acids and 6 minerals to revitalize follicle health.
“The formula contains a powerful antioxidant, glutathione, which plays a vital role in combating the deleterious effects of oxidative stress on the hair follicle, as well as improving microvasculature,” says Lilian Brasileiro.
The treatment has “in vitro” and human studies. According to Soriani, an independent laboratory has carried out “in vitro” studies to evaluate its effect on cell proliferation and extracellular matrix synthesis, as well as its anti-radical activity.
“The product significantly stimulated cell multiplication (147%) and intracellular (165%) and extracellular (200%) collagen synthesis,” says the dermatologist.
The treatment protocol includes injections into the scalp as well as the photobiostimulating effect of the LED, which improves vascularisation and cellular energy. In humans, the technique was tested on 10 patients with the aim of verifying the opportunity and efficacy of the association between this injectable hyaluronic acid and LED in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.
“The therapy stopped the hair loss after a month with one or two sessions. Already from the third session, visible growth was noticed, progressively as the treatment proceeded, with results in an increase in density, volume and improvement in the quality of the hair: brighter, more elastic and repigmented”, explains the doctor.
“The results demonstrate that aging affects all tissues, and applying nutrient-enriched hyaluronic acid treatment to the scalp works to improve hair loss,” adds Lilian Brasileiro.
How the treatment is carried out
The protocol calls for three to four sessions, with a 15-day break in the first two months, then one session a month for three months.
“The contraindications are: infectious lesions of the area and allergy to any of the compounds present in the injected product,” explains the doctor.
All phototypes can be treated with the technique. “Always consult a dermatologist, who can also indicate treatment as a form of prevention in patients suffering from genetic hair loss,” concludes Lilian Brasileiro.
