Created in 2004, this initiative provides free medicines for the treatment of conditions such as diabetes, asthma, hypertension and osteoporosis, in addition to the birth control pill. Additionally, the program offers subsidized items for dyslipidemia, rhinitis, Parkinson’s disease, glaucoma, and geriatric diapers.

How the Popular Pharmacy program works

To participate in the program it is necessary to register with the pharmacies associated with the Farmácia Popular. To do this, it is necessary to have an official document with photo and CPF number, as well as a medical prescription. The prescription should contain information such as doctor’s full name, CRM number, signature, health facility address, date of issue of the prescription, details of the medicinal prescribed, as well as the patient’s name and address.

On the website of the Ministry of Health it is possible to consult the unit closest to your residence to register and receive the medicine, if free and included in the government price list, or purchase the item with a maximum of 90% discount.
