It is increasingly common to combine technologies for non-invasive procedures and also to improve surgical outcomes. One of the biggest innovations, in this sense, came with liposuction, which has become more “complete” by also treating sagging skin with the help of the Renuvion procedure, which combines the action of two technologies (cold helium gas plasma and radio frequency).
Also called plasma jet liposuction, the procedure, in addition to reducing fat, reorganizes collagen, causes retraction and treats sagging, according to the BAPS (Brazilian Association of Plastic Surgeons).
“With the technology, you achieve a controlled supply of heat to the tissue, with rapid heating and almost instant cooling, which allows for effective treatment of deep collagen retraction,” says plastic surgeon Daniel Botelho, president of BAPS.
The procedure is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use after liposuction.
Effective method of action, according to the expert
Helium gas-based plasma has technological resources that result in an effective method of action for subcutaneous coagulation and tissue contraction. However, BAPS warns that the doctor always recommends using the technique after evaluating the patient.
“For the procedure, the specialist creates a small entry point by placing the device just under the skin. Once the device is positioned, the specialist releases helium gas and radio frequency to create a precise flow of energy (plasma),” explains the plastic surgeon.
“This energy generates enough heat to contract the skin while, at the same time, excess helium gas cools the treatment area. This combination of energy contracts the tissues just under the skin, firming them,” he adds.
Plasma jet liposuction can be applied to areas such as the abdomen, arms and legs. Additionally, facial contour can be improved when the technique is used on the neck.
In addition to the high temperature, another important point is the safety of the device, which cannot cause damage to the skin – as is the case with Renuvion. Overall, the treatment is unique.
“Results can begin to be visible in a few days or weeks and will continue to improve throughout the healing process,” says Daniel Botelho. “Recovery is rapid, within a day or two, and the procedure leaves no visible scars. When combined with liposuction, recovery can take about a week.”
