Lexa went on a loud outburst Monday (9/11) about the drama she’s been experiencing since being diagnosed with a rare disease. The singer underwent a series of medical tests after showing symptoms of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

The artist provided details about his condition in an interview on the podcast “PodPeople”, hosted by psychiatrist Ana Beatriz Barbosa. “I went for the tests requested by my gynecologist. And then I discovered that I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. My memory is a little short, I forget all the time,” she said.

“When I got the diagnosis, I was very sad. Nobody wants to have an autoimmune disease,” Lexa said, adding that it wasn’t easy dealing with the disease. “I noticed a few things, but forgetfulness was the worst of all. […] Sometimes I was in a train of thought and I forgot, I asked someone to remind me. I said, ‘Now I have to talk about this, because a lot of women have it and don’t know it. Sometimes, [elas] I’m in a depressive condition.”

Lexa also highlighted that she has suffered attacks on social media due to the physical changes caused by the disease. “And then people criticized me on the Internet: ‘She did facial matching.’ No [fiz o procedimento estético], people. I have an autoimmune disease and so [minha aparência] changes,” he underlined.

Lexa’s rare disease

Hashimoto’s thyroiditis occurs when the immune system attacks the cells of the thyroid, the gland located in the neck responsible for producing hormones. Among the symptoms, patients experience fluid retention and difficulty losing weight.

Psychiatrist Ana Beatriz Barbosa also noted that this condition is “a battle” for patients. Treatment is carried out with hormone replacement therapy and requires medical supervision.
