Slatted panels: how to use them in the bedroom, living room, office and bathroom

Interior designer Aline Zanoni clarifies the best environments for installation, as well as materials and colors

Whether it is to separate rooms, protect walls, hide wiring or even give an air of refinement and warmth to the furnishings. Slatted panels continue to be one of the materials loved by Brazilians in interior design, so much so that on Tik Tok the hashtag #panelripado already has more than 109 million views.

“Wood slats are generally used vertically in interior designs and are usually the thickness of two to five centimeters between each – which makes the project stand out, bringing warmth and modernity”, explains architect Aline Zanoni, responsible for the Aline Zanoni Architecture and Interiors.

“The panels are available in different styles and shades, and because they are versatile, they can be placed on shelves or walls. They work very well on the entire wall, as well as on a single detail in the living room, bedroom or even bathroom” , he adds. Check out the four whole-home applications below.

Aline ensures that the slats fit well in any room, including the bathroom. “The slats in the bathroom offer that touch of well-being spa to the environment, bringing warmth and naturalness. Since it is a more humid place, a little more attention is needed when choosing the material to use. There are porcelain stoneware and ceramic tiles that look like slats, which is advantageous for the bathroom, because it can get wet without fear,” explains the architect.

Slatted panel in the living room

Project by Eliana Souza.

“In the living room, it is normal to use slats on the television panel to hide the cables and give the wall prominence and softness. But it is interesting to use this MDF material also in the columns, to give a decorative touch to the structures of the parts, or even on the tops of American kitchens. I like the natural wood veneer slats and the Fendi shades”, comments Aline.

“For the bedroom, using slatted panels on the headboards provides a natural and light atmosphere. They are also great for the television wall, to hide cables. It is worth investing in bedding that matches this material and offers the sensation of spaciousness,” explains Zanoni.

“Slats can be a good option for back panels or even cabinet doors,” he adds.

Regarding the position of the slats, Aline insists: “it all depends on the customer’s taste, but it is always important to pay attention to the visual effect. The slats, when positioned horizontalsend to deeper environment. Already inside verticalthey give the impression that the the right foot is higher“.

The architect also warns about the color that will be used, since the tone influences the result. “Darker tones like black or graphite can make the room feel smaller, while lighter tones tend to feel spacious,” she concludes.
