After being sentenced to two years in prison for manslaughter, the doctor’s sentence was converted to community service and the payment of a minimum wage to a charity. Geysa’s defense appealed, but the request was rejected at second instance. Judge Suimei Cavalieri confirmed the sentence, according to the decision dated July 27, 2023.
The judge said the doctor did not have the necessary qualifications to carry out the procedure. Furthermore, irregularities were found in his clinic in Niterói, which was closed by the Health Surveillance.
