Since it began to be used in medicine, botulinum toxin has been applied for the most diverse purposes, gaining much of its popularity in the field of aesthetics for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines.
And to this day, new methods of applying the substance for rejuvenating the face are being researched to enhance natural results. This is the case of Microbotox, a technique that is gaining more and more popularity.
“The procedure consists of applying microdoses of botulinum toxin under the surface of the skin to prevent and reduce expression lines and improve the texture of the skin tissue without giving the face an exaggerated or artificial appearance,” says plastic surgeon Beatriz Lassance , full member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery Association and Isaps (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery).
According to the specialist, the objective of Microbotox is to act on the most superficial fibers of the facial muscles to weaken their action on the skin, responsible for the appearance of fine wrinkles on the face and neck.
“It can be applied to any area of the face, but it is especially interesting for the more delicate areas, such as the lip contour and the eyes. The procedure is ideal for patients who have started to show the first signs of aging, have never have applied botulinum toxin and are afraid of the procedure or simply want more natural results than those offered by the conventional technique of applying the substance,” he explains.
Use preventively
Additionally, Microbotox can also be used preventatively to prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by paralyzing the muscles that cause these changes.
“But it is important to underline that the preventive use of the substance must be recommended by a specialized doctor, in fact, despite being able to delay the appearance of the signs of aging, botulinum toxin is a drug that can end up making the patient dependent its use,” warns Beatriz.
“In general, we recommend the preventive application of botulinum toxin to patients who have characteristics that may favor the early appearance of wrinkles and expression lines, such as pale skin, very marked facial expressions or frequent involuntary grimacing.”
However, let us remember that, despite being a less invasive technique and resulting in fewer alterations to the harmony of the face, Microbotox is still a medical procedure and should therefore only be carried out by duly certified professionals.
“Only a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist can advise on the best way to apply botulinum toxin and administer it correctly to obtain satisfactory, discreet and natural results safely and without problems,” concludes Beatriz Lassance.
