Research claims that almonds minimize memory loss
The group of researchers from Purdue University, in the United States, conducted a 12-week study on 86 obese or overweight adults. The participants were divided into two groups: one consumed a diet enriched with the superfood, while the other group followed a nut-free diet. Specify that each class received a high-fat lunch with almonds or a high-carb lunch without almonds.
Immediately after lunch, participants completed memory and attention tests. Both groups experienced a decrease in alertness after lunch, which was independent of macronutrient content. Therefore, the “team” that ate the high-fat lunch showed significantly less memory decline. This fact denotes that almonds are effective in maintaining memory after meals.
Purdue University physician Richard Mattes said walnuts may moderate blood sugar levels after meals, which could explain their memory benefit. With 13g of healthy fat and 4g of fiber in each 28g and low carb serving, seeds help stabilize blood sugar levels and slow digestion. By reducing the glycemic impact of carbohydrates, it maintains blood glucose concentrations at ideal levels for memory tasks.
