To hypertrophy muscles, eliminate localized fat and sagging, more and more men are seeking medical treatment
Anyone who thinks that the male public is unaware of aesthetic procedures is wrong. With the advent of different technologies, more and more men are trying to reshape their ‘shape’ and give that little professional help to obtain aesthetic results that diet and weight training can also give, but with the need for a very methodical behavior.
“Minimally invasive body contouring can be carried out through technologies: today we have options for localized fat (such as cryolipolysis), for improving muscle tone (such as electromagnetic field) and for skin sagging associated or not with fat (such as Morpheus , Bodytite and Onda Coolwaves)”, explains dermatologist Renato Soriani, member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology.
“Men are very clear about their desires: even if they want discreet results on the face that represent naturalness, enhancing beauty, in body interventions they value body contouring, with high definition liposuction for example,” adds the surgeon plastic surgeon Tácito Ferreira, member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.
Below, see how the main treatments work.
Hifem+
Body contouring, with fat reduction and muscle development, is a priority focus for the male audience. And to do it at the same time, Cláudia Merlo, doctor specialized in cosmetology at the BWS Institute, recommends the Hifem+ technology of EmSculpt Neo, a non-invasive body contouring device. The procedure works with fat burning and muscle hypertrophy benefits through the treatment.
“Emsculpt Neo technology emits synchronized radio frequency simultaneously with the muscle stimulation of HIFEM technology (high intensity focused electromagnetic field), responsible for the reduction of fat cells. The result of this union of two energies results in greater fat burning and greater muscle growth than any other procedure, all faster and less expensive. Hifem+ technology contracts muscle fibers at intensities that are not achievable during voluntary physical exercise,” explains Cláudia Merlo.
Clinical studies show, on average, a 30% reduction in subcutaneous fat. “Always seek out your doctor for the best advice,” she concludes.
Multidimensional microneedling radiofrequency
According to dermatologist Renato Soriani, an expert in dermatological technologies and creator of the MD Morpheus technique, used throughout the world, the procedure can be performed with the aim of reducing fat and increasing skin firmness.
“Morpheus is a high-performance microneedle radio frequency. It works through the remodeling of collagen and fat, in all regions of the body. Its multidimensional application (MD Morpheus) can further optimize your results; We recommend 3 to 5 sessions with average intervals of 45 to 60 days; the results can be maintained for 12 to 24 months,” explains the doctor.
In the procedure, microneedles “puncture” the surface tissue of the skin and release radiofrequency into the deeper layers, helping to reduce fat and stimulate collagen, depending on the depth of the microneedles.
Radio frequency
According to Renato, Bodytite also uses radio frequency as its basic technology; however, its application is done through small holes made in the skin under local anesthesia.
“It promotes improvement in both sagging and reduction of localized fat. We generally recommend sessions every 6-12 months. One or two sessions can offer satisfactory and long-lasting results, between 2 and 5 years,” he says.
Cryolipolysis
The technology based on the action of cold is not new, but it is consolidated among doctors. According to dermatologist Paola Pomerantzeff, freezing fat cells helps reduce measurements and improve body contour.
Results, which tend to be up to a 25% reduction in the fat layer in the treated region, are achieved within two months. CoolSculpting has applicators designed for the whole body, as is the case with Cool Smooth.
“This cryolipolysis applicator is designed for the culotte region and anatomically conforms to the area to reduce localized fat. The tip uses the cryolipolysis system, with cooling of fats and consequent cell death, to then be able to eliminate them from the body through the lymphatic system. The treatment cools evenly, even in this curvy region. In addition to the specific design, the treatment is different from other areas of the body: it works by contact and not by suction, making it more comfortable. The duration of each application is 45 minutes per side,” explains the doctor.
Ultrafocused ultrasound
To combat sagging skin, plastic surgeon Beatriz Lassance, member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery, explains that the focused micro and macro ultrasounds of the Ultraformer III generate heat waves that heat the deeper layers of the skin, thus creating coagulation points which stimulate neocollagenesis.
“The result is an overproduction of these fibres, which restores support, elasticity and firmness to the tissue, reducing sagging skin,” explains the doctor.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure in which fat is sucked out through a cannula. According to Beatriz, what can change in this type of procedure is linked to the amount of fat to be removed, varying the surgical time, anesthesia and size of the operation.
«For example, liposuction can be done under local anesthesia and last about an hour, but the amount of total anesthetic must be respected, because there is a limit which, if exceeded, can also cause cardiac arrest. Operations that involve a larger number of areas, such as liposuction that includes the abdomen, back and arms, can last about four hours and require general or epidural anesthesia,” explains the doctor.
Recently the technique has advanced and begun to highlight the abdominal muscles (muscles) with HD Lipo. According to Tácito Ferreira, member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery and specialist in advanced body techniques at the Body Contouring Academy Institute & Faculty of Medicine of Santos, another evolution already exists, which transforms fat into muscle (Lipo uGraft).
“It is a liposuction technique that uses the removed fat to inject it into muscle tissue, promoting hypertrophy (increase) of the muscle.
“With this, we redesigned the abdomen for a more athletic size. The technique is more complete, since in addition to suctioning the fat that visually prevents the definition of the six-pack, it also promotes muscle hypertrophy through fat grafting, which is rich in stem cells,” adds Tácito. “The UGraft technique complements and improves the high definition technique; Even patients who do not have very developed muscles can now achieve a more natural aesthetic result.”
Injectable substances that reduce fat
This is also a very effective treatment against “love handles”, according to Cláudia Merlo, and consists of the subcutaneous application (into the fat layer) of drugs that cause the degradation of the fat molecule.
“They also cause an inflammatory process. At the time of application the patient does not feel pain, the use of anesthesia or ointments is not necessary. But with the inflammation generated, pain appears from the first day, along with symptoms of heat, redness and swelling at the point of application”, underlines Cláudia.
“The regions where patients report the highest level of pain are the arms and back. But after a day you feel pain just touching the treated area. These active ingredients act only in the applied area, increasing local metabolism and significantly reducing fat in that region,” concludes the doctor.
