Health technology that transforms lives

A global leader in the industry, GE HealthCare invests in the most advanced medical solutions focused on patients’ quality of life

A global leader in medical technology and innovation, GE HealthCare has transformed the healthcare market and patients’ lives by investing in the most advanced medical technology. The company operates in 160 countries and has served more than 1 billion patients. In Brazil it is present in more than 20 thousand clinics and hospitals in all regions of the country.

This presence translates into improving the quality of life of thousands of people. “Brazil is an important market, due to its size and health-related needs, to which we can actively contribute. Over the years, it has become a showcase for the progress of the sector and continues to demonstrate a great appetite for innovation,” says Rafael Palombini, president and CEO of GE HealthCare for Latin America.

One of GE HealthCare’s most successful cases occurred in Brazil. The arrival of AIR Recond DL in a clinic in Acre has made it possible to reduce the waiting list for MRI. In a single day it was possible to carry out more than 90 tests. This healthcare solution from GE HealthCare uses an image reconstruction algorithm that works across the entire body and enables more accurate medical reports and better treatment decision-making. The time saved in image production is 70% and every second counts when seeking health.

“This is a very emblematic case for us and is the best example of the use of technology – more quality for the patient, more productivity for the customer, more assertiveness for the doctor – with gains along the whole chain,” says Palombini.

The CEO also points out that in Latin America customers already have solutions offered in the United States and that many innovations are being pioneered here. “We have a team focused on securing approvals in the different Latin American markets in the shortest time possible. This allows customers throughout the region to have the same technologies offered in the United States, and it is not uncommon for equipment to become global cases , This was precisely the case with StarGuide, a molecular imaging machine that we installed this year in Brazil, at a customer in Recife, and which became the second to go into operation in the world.”

In Contagem, Minas Gerais, GE HealthCare has three production lines: magnetic resonance (MR), computed tomography (CT) and Sirgury. Together they have a capacity exceeding the production of 700 machines per year. And it is in this distribution center, expanded with the aim of meeting the needs of the market, that equipment such as Signa Victor, an MRI solution, leader in speed on the market, is produced. Being faster, the equipment guarantees a shorter examination time, which generates more comfort for the patient, as well as ensuring more precise images, which translates into more assertive treatment. Furthermore, Signa Victor saves 10% energy and consumes up to 70% less helium than other similar devices on the market, making it not only more economical, but also more sustainable.

“The transformation of GE HealthCare into an independent company has allowed us to reposition ourselves as needed. We have moved from being a manufacturer of medical equipment to providing solutions that touch the entire patient journey,” says the CEO for Latin America .

As an industry leader, GE HealthCare continually pursues innovation, investing more than $1 billion in research and development. Of the more than 200 software applications available, 42 are focused on artificial intelligence and already have approval from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), an American regulatory agency. One such advance is Edison Imaging 360, which brings together all the applications available for radiology operations.

“This new moment for GE HealthCare will also allow us to accelerate how we see the next era of the industry, with a consultative and collaborative approach, to build progress and evolution, always idealizing the best patient journey. We want the industry to eliminate waste and inefficiencies, counting on the support of solutions that combine the best of equipment technology with digital capabilities. And we are 200% ready to support any need in this regard”, concludes the company’s CEO.
