8 games that stimulate children’s development

The doctor explains how they stimulate the most diverse intelligences in the little ones

Play is the essence of childhood. They represent more than just hobbies; They are fundamental for the integral development of children, influencing not only their physical growth, but also their emotional, social and cognitive growth. By participating in playful activities, little ones explore the world around them, learn to interact with other individuals and develop essential skills for adult life.

Therefore, the advice of Dr. Fernando Gomes, neurosurgeon, neuroscientist and free professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the USP (University of São Paulo), for Children’s Day, is to go back in time to the games of yesteryear and understand how can stimulate the most diverse types of intelligence.

“When we compare the bell, the tag, the odd or even, the cordless telephone, among others, with the current world, which is much more onlinewe were able to evaluate how much the current world of screens compromises brain development”, warns the doctor.

Some very simple games, easy to produce and play, can help children’s education. Furthermore, each of them stimulates a specific type of intelligence and mental ability. Are they:

1. Stop, cordless phone or tongue twister

Here linguistic intelligence and communication is encourageds strengthen school subjects such as Portuguese and English.

2. What, what is it?, rock, paper, scissors and tic tac toe

They promote logical-mathematical intelligence and improve mathematical skills.

3. Hide and seek or marble

Everything that encompasses the notion of space improves knowledge for cycling and in the future also for driving, since deep structures of the brain, such as the cerebellum and basal ganglia, are used in these games.

Skipping rope helps improve children's motor skills

4. Hopscotch, cat house, skipping rope and tag

Since the movement of the physical body awakens motor skills, in these games we work on kinesthetic bodily intelligence which, in addition to all this, still burn calories and can be a good introduction to the sport.

5. Flapping (flapping stickers)

Stimulate emotional intelligence.

6. Collect the stickers

Memory, attention and other social skills are teased in a healthy way with this habit that activates the pleasure circuit.

7. Fly a kite

This game involves different processes such as psychomotricity (during the assembly of the kite, understanding the physical world and how the wind will make the kite fly) and physical and interpersonal intelligence.

8. Dead or alive, cat-mia and pass ring

Meditative attitudes cause inhibitory control in these types of games that still stimulate attention.
