Freddie Prinze Jr.: Whatever Happened to the Hero, Remember Last Summer and Scooby-doo?

He was one of the most popular young American actors of the 90s, thanks to his roles in the first two films of the horror saga, Remembering… Last Summer and the romantic comedy It’s Too Good. Over the next decade, he was also bankrolling a slew of “teen movies” and his portrayal of Fred Jones in live-action adaptations of Scooby-Doo. But what happened to Freddie Prinze Jr.?

Because yes, let’s face it: After Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed hit theaters in 2004, Freddie Prinze Jr. suddenly disappeared from circulation. Surprisingly for an actor who recently starred in the TV series Friends – a very good barometer for judging popularity.

After the second live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo, Freddie Prinze Jr., famously known for his relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar, appeared in several episodes of Boston Justice. First of all, he created a show for ABC that bears his name. This is probably where the American got the car: Freddy only lasted one season due to lack of sufficient audience.

After his series of failures, things went from bad to worse for Freddie Prinze Jr., who piled up the failures. Brooklyn Rules, New York Serenade or even Jack and Jill vs. The world doesn’t really meet its audience at all, and those who experienced the shooting of Remember… Last Summer then leave the cinema.

Therefore, Freddie Prinze Jr. is now moving to television, with a particularly notable performance in the series 24, where he plays Agent Ortiz alongside Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland). Dubbing also occupies a significant part of his time: he lends his voice to video games, to the animated film Delgo, but above all to the series Star Wars Rebel, where he plays the character of Kanan Jarrus on the microphone. A character he briefly returned to in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the ninth installment in the acclaimed intergalactic saga.

But the real surprise in Freddie Prinze Jr.’s career is his involvement in a world away from movies since 2008: wrestling! The American was especially the producer and director of the official federation of this discipline, WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), whose goal was to have matches as planned.

From 2021, Freddie Prinze Jr. is in charge Wrestling with Freddy, a podcast dedicated specifically to this wrestling he loves. Last April, he joined the team at Premier Streaming Network, an independent platform that offers content specifically for this discipline, but also for sports and entertainment in general.

Freddie Prinze Jr. on screen, is it over? Not so sure… The actor, now 47, was in discussions earlier this year to reprise his role in last summer’s Remembering sequel.
