The expert explains what to do if you are not satisfied with the results of facial harmonization
Aesthetic procedures are increasingly popular, especially in Brazil. The country occupies second place in the ranking of countries that carry out the highest number of aesthetic procedures, behind only the United States. Among the most performed techniques is facial harmonization. But what to do in case of regrets? Is it possible to reverse it?
Facial harmonization, which involves combining different facial treatments with the aim of providing greater symmetry, has seen a sharp increase in demand over the past 4 years. In 2020 alone, Google reported a 540% increase in searches related to the procedure. Despite its great fame, a new wave is emerging: the reversal of these treatments. The reason? The denaturalization of each person’s features.
When to do or not to do facial harmonization
Amanda Sodré, a specialist in harmonization and advanced facial anatomy, says it is important to emphasize that every aesthetic procedure must first undergo an evaluation. It must be carried out by a professional in the sector, so that it is possible to know the patient’s facial anatomy, avoiding it having an artificial appearance, preserving its characteristics.
“I believe that facial harmonization can and must take place without distorting the patient’s characteristics. It must be done as an individualized procedure, remembering that each person has natural characteristics, their own beauty. In this way there will be a balance, always respecting the limits of health and common sense,” explains Amanda.
According to the professional, the procedure performed incorrectly (i.e. without a thorough study of the patient’s facial anatomy or with inadequate injection techniques) can aggravate the cheekbones. It can also make your nose too thin or too high—in other words, leave it standing upright. It can also make your lips look much thicker, making them look too artificial, and it can also make your eyebrows look too arched.
Several celebrities have already been subjected to criticism on social media due to the huge difference in their appearance after undergoing popular beauty treatments, such as facial contouring, facial fillers, botox and the application of PDO threads. Among the main ones are the singer Madonna, the socialite Kylie Jenner and the actress Nicole Kidman. Among the famous Brazilians who adapt to the situation are the singer Gretchen, the DJ Alok and the athlete Diego Hipólito.
How are facial procedures reversed?
“In procedures with the synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, a substance produced by the body itself, such as facial harmonization, can be reversed with the use of the enzyme hyaluronidase. This substance can instantly degrade hyaluronic acid, so this process can also be carried out in a single session”, says Amanda.
It reminds us that not all cosmetic procedures are removable, such as botulinum toxin, known as botox. Despite this, its effect is temporary and can last, on average, 12 weeks.
