AGORA architecture + design’s proposal was to create an integrated, L-shaped layout, with large windows and openings to connect the rooms

AND Home, Designed in the mid-20th century, it is located in a quiet suburban area of Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. A previous renovation had created a long, narrow kitchen, separated from the living room and backyard. The fragmented layout meant that the family often found themselves in separate rooms. AGORA architecture + design’s proposal was to create an integrated layout that would allow the family to be more united and bring the kitchen into the heart of the home.

The solution was to create an L-shaped project, oriented towards the garden in the background. The walls of the former kitchen and corridor were removed to open up the space, and the windows and doors were modified to maximize the connection between light and the garden. At the front of the house, an additional study/bedroom was created in the old kitchen.

OR herringbone oak flooring is used throughout the ground floor, and the green and pink color palette It is adopted in kitchen cabinets, walls, hardware and upholstery. This continuity of finishes, along with minimal details such as recessed baseboards, frameless doors and transparent switches, help create a feeling of space.
