Pulling a clean sweater out of the closet and realizing it smells average isn’t the best morning adventure. If you’re wrinkling your nose as you rummage through the shelves to find what you need, it’s time to act!
Find the source of the unpleasant odor
It doesn’t appear like that – most likely, several wardrobe items became the source. Most often, shoes give off an unpleasant odor – consider putting them in another well-ventilated area.
If everything is in order, check for mold – inspect the shelves carefully, checking for white, green or black spores. As practice shows, we begin to smell mold before it becomes clearly visible.
Control humidity in the closet
How do you know if it’s too high? Fill a glass with water, throw in a few ice cubes, place the glass in the cupboard and close the door for four minutes. If after this you see condensation on the outside of the glass, this means that the inside of the cabinet is too humid, which can lead to a musty smell.
The easiest way to “dry” the air is to place an open container of baking soda or a cup of activated charcoal on a shelf. Another product that will help you is rice: keep an open jar of cereal or a canvas bag in the cupboard.

Add the “right” flavors
This can be done in different ways – for example, buying special sachets for the closet or simply putting a bar of scented soap or a cotton ball with essential oil there.
Use products that absorb odors
Baking soda and activated carbon are suitable if you want to get rid of an unpleasant aroma, coffee – if you don’t mind your clothes acquiring the subtle smell of freshly brewed espresso.
Do some spring cleaning
Although it is harder for dust to get onto the shelves, it still does, so damp cleaning is necessary to keep things clean. Do you want to prevent an unpleasant smell from appearing in your closet? Add the vinegar and lemon juice to the water. Allow the closet to dry completely before hanging up items. If you are in a hurry, use a hairdryer for this.
