The expert explains how to identify insects and residues left on furniture, floors and ceilings
The flying season termites has arrived and it is essential to be prepared to prevent and identify infestations in your home. Kelly Lima, a marketing analyst at Montana Química, offers valuable tips for protecting your wood that go beyond checking for holes. Watch!
PLACE SCREENS ON YOUR WINDOWS TO AVOID SIRIRI AND HALLELUJAH
The first piece of advice is to carefully observe the siriris or hallelujah, which are termites during the mating period. “They are easily identifiable around lights. The use of protective screens on doors and windows can help prevent these insects from entering your home. However, for more effective protection, it is recommended to apply termitecide in liquid form, especially on raw wood and all sides,” explains Kelly.
LOOK FOR RESIDUE IN THE WOOD
The professional states that the damage caused by termites to wood is often internal and silent. “Anyway, the termite feces they are easier to detect, they look like small ones dry and hard balls, similar to grains of sand. Drills, on the other hand, leave finer residues, similar to dust,” he explains.
BEWARE OF THE SOIL TERMITE

It’s worth remembering that there are other types of termites, known as soil termites, which can also attack wood. Kelly warns that they create earthen tunnels as a form of protection and route to the colony, which may be distant, and that the identification of these earthen tunnels could be an indication of this infestation.
DO NOT CONFUSE THE TERMITE WITH THE ANT
Another point that raises many doubts is how to distinguish termites from ants. “Termites have straighter, softer bodies and symmetrical pairs of wings, while ants have more elongated, waist-like bodies and differently sized pairs of wings. Additionally, drills resemble small, dark brown beetles,” says the expert.
USE APPROPRIATE PRODUCTS
Montana Química has in its product line the termitecides Pentox Cupim (water-based insecticide that can be used indoors and outdoors and in its aerosol version also fights ants) and Pentox Super Dupla Ação (solvent-based insecticide for use on dry wood).
When in doubt, be sure to call a company that specializes in termite removal and pest control.
