Some children start talking at 2 years old, others a little earlier or a little later
Doctor, my son has not yet spoken and he is already 17 months old. Could it be autism?
A child with autism may take longer to speak and establish contact with their parents or other people. But a simple language delay does not mean the child is autistic.
Experts recommend up to 2 years of age before some children can begin to speak. Some start earlier, others start a little later.
However I think you could wait another 6 months, until he is 2 years old. And if your daughter still doesn’t speak, ask for an evaluation from a pediatrician, or a neuropediatrician, so that she can help you and make the necessary indications.
But calm down! Today there is an exaggeration in the diagnosis of autism and it is not a simple delay in language that characterizes this condition.
