The rock album that is a “textbook” about music according to Eddie Vedder

Pearl Jam singer built his taste on alternative albums, but classics of the genre also made his mind

Before being the lead singer of Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder He is, above all, a big music fan. Whenever he can, the singer highlights many of his influences during interviews — in addition to highlighting contemporary bands that he admires.

In 2013, he prepared a list for the website Discogs(via website Igor Miranda) where he lists his 13 favorite albums of all time. Among so many alternative titles, there were also some irrevocable rock classics.

One of them is the eponymous album by Beatlesalso known as White Album and made available in 1968. Vedder He was full of praise for the work, even defining it as “almost a textbook for someone born in 1964”. At first, he revealed a curiosity: he discovered the album from a tape that also contained Revolver (1966).

“I had a tape called Revolver White Album. I only discovered they were two separate albums years later.”

Then, he highlighted one of the great differences of the White Album: there are songs for all types of audiences. From children who want to hear simple songs to long-time fans looking for more experimental material.

“O The White Album There are songs that appeal to young children, like ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. So if you follow along, you’ll be listening to something experimental like Revolution 9.

Finally, he reflected:

“I mean, these things open your mind. It’s where you feel comfortable with ‘hard’ listening.”

Eddie Vedder and the punch of a Beatle

Eddie Vedder is such a fan of Beatles who can even say that he was already punched by one of the band members. The person responsible for the “caress” was Paul McCartney. Accidentally, of course.

The vocalist of Pearl Jam narrated the situation in a 2017 interview with SiriusXM (via Whiplash). At the time, the two friends were in a bar in the city of seattle with other people.

“He was kind of illustrating how he punched a guy. When he did that, he moved his left arm like he was hitting the guy. But then I got punched! (Laughs) He hit me! He didn’t swing his arm back with the punch, you know? So the story continued and it was a great, incredible personal story.”
