A 32-year-old woman died as it crosses a surgery to remove an IUD (Intrauterine Device), in a clinic in Matozinhos, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. The victim was identified as Jéssica Marques Vieira.
The Civil Police of Minas Gerais said it had launched a police investigation and was awaiting the completion of reports from experts investigating the causes and circumstances of the death to provide further details on the case. The operation took place last Saturday 4th.
According to the newspaper State of Minas, the victim’s father and husband were waiting for her during the procedure. Jéssica arrived at the Med Center clinic around 7.30am and at 9.30am she was taken to the Emergency Department (UPA), apparently already dead.
The surgery was performed by a cardiologist who had already treated Jéssica. The newspaper states that, when he saw her daughter taken to UPA, the father asked the doctor what had happened and he said he had tried to resuscitate the woman 19 times.
The death was notified to the family only around 2.30 pm, together with the arrival of a Civil Police officer. The body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Belo Horizonte.
