Why you shouldn’t throw away banana peels: You’ll be surprised when you find out!

According to statistics, on average we throw away around 30% of the food we buy. It’s no surprise that few people wonder whether banana peels should be thrown in the trash.

However, there are plenty of reasons not to do it – it turns out there are plenty of ways to use it, and some of them will definitely surprise you!

Make Vegan Bacon

Remember how Kevin Spacey, who plays the alien in the movie Planet Ka-Pax, ate a banana straight from the peel? It turns out that we all laughed at him in 2001 in vain – now vegans are preparing an analogue of bacon from banana peels: they first marinate it in soy sauce with smoked paprika, maple syrup and garlic, then fry it.

Polish your leather shoes

Bananas contain potassium, and it’s not just the human body that needs it. This substance, along with the natural oils found in the fruit, will help your shoes look better – peel the inside of the skin from the fibers and wipe your boots and shoes with it (just keep in mind that this method does not does not work with suede and patent leather).

Whiten teeth

Potassium can whiten teeth, and calcium and vitamin D, also found in bananas, will help strengthen them. So cut the skin into small pieces and throw it in the refrigerator. Remove them one by one in the evening and polish the inside of your teeth for a few minutes, then brush them as usual.

Studies show that it helps you fall asleep. The fact is that banana peels contain magnesium, which has a relaxing effect. Of course, you will have to tinker: first, the skin must be put in the freezer, then defrosted and dried in the oven (this will take an hour), then ground into powder.
