Tips to keep children safe when using apps

In this technological world with free access to information where our children live, one of the biggest concerns is how to ensure the safety of our children. The expert gives 4 tips to parents worried about their children’s cybersecurity.

When leaving children in front of screens, it is important for parents and educators to ensure that there are four important tools to ensure children’s safety. Alexandre Albert, technology specialist at the Sandbox Kids group and responsible for the development of the Playkids+ app, gives advice.

  1. Make sure the app has careful content selection: Technology aimed at children must be made exclusively with specific content aimed at each age group, ensuring that children access materials appropriate to their developmental stage;
  1. Control of parents and guardians: Sensitive areas such as settings, login and registration must ensure that only adults can access them;
  1. Safety Information: Protecting children’s data and privacy is essential to ensure safe use. Applications for children must necessarily have this security;
  1. Without advertising: Content for children must be ad-free so they can focus on learning and having fun, without unwanted interruptions and without any incentive to consume.

For the expert, one of the crucial aspects in fighting the dangers of the Internet is the promotion of digital education. “It is vital that younger generations are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the web safely and conscientiously. This not only teaches children about online dangers, but also empowers them to recognize and avoid threats,” he says. Furthermore, Alexandre says digital education must include awareness about the potential emotional and psychological impacts of cybercrimes. “We must teach children how to deal with cyberbullying, online harassment and other forms of abuse, as well as provide resources and support to victims when needed. By investing in digital education and awareness, we are better equipped to meet the challenges of the digital age in global and ethical way”, concludes the expert.
