The main character of The Valley is former investigator Catherine Cawood, played by Sarah Lancashire. She put on suspenders and went to work for the police after the suicide of her only daughter: the girl became pregnant as a result of rape, and it broke her. Katherine decided not to send newborn Ryan to an orphanage and has been raising the boy for nine years, despite the disapproval of her own son and ex-husband, who see the baby as nothing more than a reminder of the tragedy .

Katherine herself is haunted by the fact that her daughter’s rapist, the dangerous psychopath Tommy (James Norton), has not been punished. He is involved in the kidnapping of a businessman’s daughter and Catherine must get out of a very difficult situation in which personal and professional aspects are closely intertwined. She will take on the dangerous and treacherous role of good with her fists… Almost 10 years passed between the three seasons of the series, which gave the creators of the series the opportunity to take a turn very interesting in the plot and to tell a very deep and pulling story about the Katherine-Ryan-Tommy triangle.

The creators of the miniseries, which starred Kate Winslet in one of her most powerful roles, certainly knew about Happy Valley. There are many significant coincidences in these series, but this does not impoverish any of them – on the contrary, the similarities in the lives of the heroines make it possible to better understand the character of each of them. Detective Meir Sheehan investigates the death of a young single mother. The girl was found in the forest under strange circumstances. Additionally, a kidnapper is operating in the city and it is unclear if he is connected to the girl’s murder. Mair tries to stop the evil while her own life sinks into the abyss of trouble. She is an excellent detective, but at the same time she is a tired, frayed, torn woman who can easily put a dangerous bastard in his place, but who sometimes does not know what to answer to her own grandson.

There are actually two heroine investigators in this series, and both have prototypes. With Merritt Weaver (Detective Karen Duvall) and Toni Collette (Detective Grace Rasmussen). The series is based on real events and demonstrates not only the weaknesses of the law enforcement system, but also an impressive example of how the care and efforts of professionals can change even the most desperate situation. The plot is based on the story of Marie Adler, a girl from a dysfunctional family who was raped. Under the pressure of the investigation, she admits that what happened to her was a fiction, but meticulous detectives recover Marie’s testimony from the archives when the rapist commits crimes again. We love Merritt Weaver in this role: Toni Collette’s character is certainly tough, but her partner’s gentle strength is truly admirable.

A very unusual domestic series, in which the main role was played by actress Linda Lapinysh. Investigator Eva Kaidas, without waiting for orders from her superiors, resumes the investigation into the frightening… apparently a ritual murder committed in the protected zone of the Curonian Spit.

The brilliant Gillian Anderson in the strict image we love – but this time she’s not catching aliens, but Jeremy Dornan. Anderson’s heroine, Stella Gibson, is a police quartermaster who has been hired as an expert to investigate a murder. However, the consultation turns into a full-blown obsession, and the hunt for a serial killer nicknamed the Belfast Strangler becomes a professional and personal challenge for Gibson. The detective novel turns into a study of the nature of evil and, oddly enough, of love – more precisely, of the forms that this strong feeling can take. The psychology of the plot keeps you in suspense, and be prepared for the fact that your audience’s sympathies may change several times as the plot unfolds.
