In summer hair requires special care; experts highlight, among others, bathroom care, thermal protector
In summer the skin requires specific care, especially because it is more exposed to the sun, right? And with hair it’s the same line of thinking!
Like the skin, the hair also suffers from the stronger sun, and can be damaged by salt water, sand and chlorine, for those who take advantage of the hottest hours to go to the beach or swimming pool. All this causes dehydration of the hair, which can become weaker and duller.
But don’t worry: heat doesn’t have to dry out your hair! Just follow a few tips and tricks to face summer with fabulous hair. See below some of them brought by Dr. Fernanda Nichelle, doctor specialized in skin health and beauty, and Fernanda Cortez, trichologist:
Use thermal protector (and correctly)
Dr. Fernanda Nichelle states that the thermal protector is the greatest ally for those who frequently use hairdryers, diffusers or straighteners, especially in summer. After all, in this season these devices can damage your hair.
“The thermal protectant does not allow the hair to suffer direct damage, caused by high temperatures like those we are experiencing in Brazil, which can cause irreversible damage to the hair shaft, leaving the hair very damaged and dull,” he explains.
However, you have to be careful to apply the thermal protector correctly, you know? The product must be positioned before exposure to any type of heat source and only along the length, not at the root.
Be careful of the sun
In summer, very strong sunny days are frequent, which can significantly damage the hair and especially the scalp, but how to avoid this? According to Fernanda Cortez, head accessories, such as caps or hats, are a great option right now.
Avoid hot baths
It’s still okay that most people avoid hot baths in the summer, right? But if you are one of those people who like warmer water even at this temperature, try to manage it and opt for a cooler temperature. This is because, according to Fernanda, a very hot shower can damage the health and appearance of your hair.
Attention after the sea or swimming pool
Enjoying the sea or the pool is one of the greatest advantages of summer. But even at this moment, or rather, afterwards, we need to pay attention. “Always wash your hair with mineral water after swimming in the sea or pool, to remove as much chemicals and salt from the locks as possible,” advises the trichologist.
Have good nutrition and hydration
In addition to all these more specific treatments, some more general treatments, good for general health, are also very beneficial for your hair. This is where measures such as good nutrition and hydration come into play, ensuring that hair is not affected by heat and remains healthy.
