Doctors explain how to prevent the proliferation of bacteria in the hottest time of the year
Heat can pose a threat to a woman’s intimate health if certain precautions are not taken. This is because there is a greater propensity to develop gynecological diseases, such as candidiasis, trichomoniasis and vaginosis.
As gynecologist Domingos Mantelli explains, this is because wearing a wet bikini for a long time or even wearing synthetic clothing can make secretions more frequent at this time of year. Therefore he recommends avoiding prolonged humidity in the vaginal area.
“Replace wet bikinis with dry ones, opt for lighter and more ventilated clothes such as skirts and dresses and, above all, ask your doctor for advice whenever you notice something wrong”, suggests the doctor, who has a degree in Gynecological and Obstetric Ultrasound.

Food matters
What you eat also has an impact on intimate health, as nutritionist Liliane Oppermann explains. She reminds us that from a “nutrilogical” point of view, the body must be kept hydrated to prevent urine from becoming too concentrated and, consequently, facilitating the proliferation of bacteria.
It is also important to avoid excess sugars, fried foods, fats and condiments, replacing them with natural foods, such as vegetables and dried fruit. According to Liliane, yogurt is an example of a recommended food because it is rich in probiotics.

“We must understand that the intestinal microbiota communicates with the vaginal microbiota, in fact in our body each part has its own microbiota and communicates with each other”, he underlines in an interview with Earth. Aware of this, the doctor recommends consuming products rich in fiber, such as whole grains, as part of a balanced diet that favors the absorption of all nutrients.
