Can you shave and sunbathe? Be careful when pulling your hair

To avoid stains, the expert gives advice on what to do after waxing

If you plan to enjoy the summer by the pool or on the beach, it’s important to take some precautions before exposing yourself to the sun. And when we talk about protection we are not just referring to sun protection, which is still the most important part and mandatory use during the summer.

To protect your skin you also need to pay attention to sun exposure after shaving. To avoid spots caused by the high incidence of sunlight during the summer, it is necessary to increase care both before and after the hair extraction process.

Below is a list of precautions to take when shaving during the summer.

Can or can’t you sunbathe after waxing?

Waxing causes the surface layer of skin to be removed, leaving the region more sensitized. Since this layer of the dermis is more sensitive than normal, exposure to sunlight can promote the appearance of blemishes, allergies and even burns.

Experts advise not to sunbathe immediately after waxing. According to Lorena Coutinho, biomedical beautician at the Matheus Castro Institute, the ideal is to wait on average 15 days (after the operation) to preserve the integrity of the skin and not cause wounds.

The recommendation does not depend on the method used to extract the hair, whether it is a waxing, laser or razor process. In case of unavoidable sun exposure, Lorena recommends reapplying sunscreen every 3 hours.

Additionally, experts also recommend not entering the pool immediately after waxing, even if it is covered, as the chlorinated water can trigger an allergic reaction in the freshly waxed area.

Post waxing tips

Of course you can shave in the summer, yes! However, you need to be careful. Biomedical doctor Lorena Coutinho recommends other tips to take into consideration in the post-depilatory process. Are they:

  1. Avoid wearing tight clothing;
  2. Use soothing products on the shaved area;
  3. Use fragrance-free moisturizers;
  4. Avoid using oils that clog pores;
  5. Do not use tanning lotions;
  6. Wash the area with mild soap.

In case of allergies or other dermatological problems, do not hesitate to seek professional help at any sign of irritation.
