Made in Italy, it is covered in gold and diamonds. There are also more “popular” versions that cost R$6,500
Would you buy it? The most expensive panettone in the world was produced by Italian chef Dario Hartvig, of Pasticceria del Borgo, in Piedmont (Italy) as a true “rare jewel”.
Prepared exclusively for an Indian millionaire in 2017, the Christmas food consisted of gold, diamonds and a tiara to give to the bride, which alone cost almost the total value of the product.
The golden panettone weighed five kilos and was decorated with diamonds from the Crieri brand, from the city of Valenza, and cost 700 thousand euros, the equivalent of 3.75 million reals!
The panettone dough was prepared with sugar, flour, butter, eggs, saffron, Ecuadorian cocoa chocolate, as well as edible gold flakes. 22 carat gold leaf and diamond decoration on the cover.
This super panettone was produced for the first time in 2013, for a Russian billionaire, who started ordering it every end of the year. At the time it cost around 500 thousand euros (R$ 2.68 million) and other customers who love ostentation liked the idea.
The chef responded to the requests of those who could not afford a million dollar panettone and began producing a more “popular” version, covered in gold leaf and with a crystal base.
“We produce in a more ‘economical’ way, always covered in 23 carat gold with Swarovski instead of diamonds,” he explains.
This model, still sold today, costs 1200, approximately R$6,500.
“This year we have 12 flavors of the classic with candied orange raisins, then we have marron glacés, peach with amaretto and chocolate, chocolate trio, white chocolate and raspberry, mango and white chocolate with passion fruit, coffee, milk chocolate , pears and chocolate, gin and tonic, saffron and extra dark chocolate”, said the chef Taste.
And what is the secret to making such a different and valuable panettone? Dario explains:
“More than a secret recipe, there is the quality of the raw materials which must be of the highest level and then the combination of flavours, an example is the 700 thousand euro panettone, which was made for the first time with Saffron and Chocolate “.
