Bipolar affective disorder: the illness kept Lucas Lucco away from the stage

The psychoanalyst explains what it is, how to identify and treat the pathology that affects the singer. Find out more!

Thursday 7 December the singer Luca Lucco shared a statement on social media saying he will be stepping away from the stage for a while take care of your mental health.

In a photo posted on Instagram, he commented on his diagnosis Bipolar affective disorder. “In the year 2023, I had to issue a note twice to justify the postponement and cancellation of some shows, rearranging and struggling with the schedule due to the various and varied commitments that the companies that have today require of me. I have had numerous crises during the year, but on November 7th the pain became very intense and since then I have remained symptom-free for only three days out of 30. I was already following some type of treatment and now I decided to turn to a professional specialist who, in my case, it completely changed the approach to help me stabilize,” he began.

“I love everything I do, I love my job, on and off stage, but sometimes TABs can limit me a lot, and that’s why I need this little break. I apologize to the people who went to the shows this weekend, I’m sorry, but I need to be 100% for my son, for the stage, for the companies and to achieve the dreams and goals I have yet to achieve. You know, there are open wounds that are invisible to our eyes, but they are still very, very painful. Be kind to everyonebecause you never know what that person is experiencing behind the scenes, and that many, when leaving home, choose a mask to wear,” he added.

What is bipolar affective disorder?

OR Bipolar affective disorder is a mental condition characterized by extreme mood swingsthat includes manic episodes (intense euphoria) e depression. These stages can last a few weeks or months and can have a significant impact on a person’s ability to carry out daily activities, such as work. Symptoms of the disease generally begin to appear between 18 and 25 years old.

“Manic episodes can lead to impulsive behaviors AND lack of concentrationwhile depressive episodes may occur low energy AND motivationO. These extreme mood fluctuations can interfere with job performance and relationships in the workplace. In some cases, TAB can lead to temporary leave OR permanent jobespecially if it is not adequately treated,” says the psychoanalyst Elizandra Souza.

How to identify the TAB?

Some most common signs of bipolar affective disorder are:

  • Extreme mood swings;
  • High energy;
  • Lack of sleep during manic episodes;
  • Persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness during depressive episodes;
  • Marked fluctuations in academic or professional performance;
  • Difficulty concentrating;
  • Impulsive.

“However, only one mental health professional can accurately diagnose TAB after clinical evaluation. If you or someone you know has these symptoms, we recommend seeking advice from a healthcare professional,” warns Souza.

Treatment

Treatment may involve use of mood stabilizing drugssuch as lithium or anticonvulsants, psychotherapy and even continuous psychiatric support to manage symptoms. However, it is worth pointing out that the specific approach varies depending on the severity and the nature episodes in each patient.

“Psychoanalysis would be used to delve deeper into subjective issues, that is, for greater understanding and expansion of self-knowledge. Knowing why and where this type of expression comes from. What causes this manifestation, what are the internal and external mechanisms that influence and influence in appearance and how it is possible to deal with it, even if there is the possibility of the disappearance of this suffering. But, remembering that psychoanalysis does not simply work with the elimination of the symptom, but with the understanding of its appearance and meaning”, he says.
