Australian bread recipe

Preparation time: 1h (+1h rest)

Performance: 20 servings

Difficulty level: easy

Ingredients:

  • 1 sachet of dry yeast (10g)
  • 1 1/2 cups (tea) warm water
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup wholemeal flour (tea)
  • 3 cups wheat flour (approximately)
  • Oil for anointing
  • Corn flour for dusting

Preparation method:

  1. In a bowl mix the yeast, water, butter, honey, cocoa, sugar and salt.
  2. Add the flour and mix until a smooth, soft dough forms that does not stick to your hands.
  3. If necessary, add more wheat flour.
  4. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, cover and leave to rest for 20 minutes.
  5. Form the dough into 2 long loaves and place them in a large greased baking tray.
  6. Sprinkle with cornmeal, cover and let rest for another 40 minutes.
  7. With a sharp knife, make transversal cuts on the bread.
  8. Bake in preheated medium oven for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Let it cool and, if desired, serve your Australian bread with butter.
