Australian bread recipe
Preparation time: 1h (+1h rest)
Performance: 20 servings
Difficulty level: easy
Ingredients:
- 1 sachet of dry yeast (10g)
- 1 1/2 cups (tea) warm water
- 2 tablespoons softened butter
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup wholemeal flour (tea)
- 3 cups wheat flour (approximately)
- Oil for anointing
- Corn flour for dusting
Preparation method:
- In a bowl mix the yeast, water, butter, honey, cocoa, sugar and salt.
- Add the flour and mix until a smooth, soft dough forms that does not stick to your hands.
- If necessary, add more wheat flour.
- Knead the dough for 5 minutes, cover and leave to rest for 20 minutes.
- Form the dough into 2 long loaves and place them in a large greased baking tray.
- Sprinkle with cornmeal, cover and let rest for another 40 minutes.
- With a sharp knife, make transversal cuts on the bread.
- Bake in preheated medium oven for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let it cool and, if desired, serve your Australian bread with butter.
