Singer Ludmilla recently announced that she intends to have a baby with her partner Brunna Gonçalves in 2024. In an interview with Fantástico, the couple revealed that their chosen method of pregnancy is in vitro fertilization, also known as IVF . According to Lud’s advisors, Brunna will be the one to become pregnant.
Unlike intrauterine insemination (IUI), in which sperm are introduced directly into the woman’s uterus, in in vitro fertilization a single, previously selected sperm is inserted into the egg fertilized in the laboratory. In the case of the two artists the egg will be Ludmilla’s, but Brunna will be responsible for the gestation of the child.
The IVF procedure is normally divided into four phases. The first of these is performing tests to evaluate the woman’s immune, metabolic and hormonal systems. It is in this phase that Lud and Brunna find themselves.
Then, hormonal drugs begin to stimulate the growth of follicles and the release of up to ten eggs at once, which increases the chances of fertilization. In the third phase, reproductive cells are collected and fertilized in the laboratory with sperm from a donor (anonymous or otherwise).
The embryos remain in vitro for approximately 14 days, until frozen. Here begins the fourth phase. In the following menstruation, the eggs are thawed and implanted in the uterus on the most fertile days of the cycle. The average success rate can vary from 60% in women up to age 35 to 10% around age 43. Brunna is 31 years old and Lud is 28.
Second Rita de Cassia, a gynecologist and obstetrician who specializes in high-risk pregnancies, IVF poses little risk to patients. «Only if the patient comes with the request to have a child at 49 years old, she has a history of thrombosis, stroke, hypertension, I advise her to adopt. This would not be a suitable profile to get pregnant, in my opinion, because pregnancy has a huge impact on the body”, says the specialist. Brunna Gonçalves is 31 years old and Ludmilla is 28.
According to the doctor, the price of the operation in Brazil varies between R$ 25 thousand and R$ 40 thousand, depending on a number of factors. “It is a method that requires a greater investment. The queue to carry it out through the public system lasts four to five years,” he explains. Ludmilla and Bruna plan to perform the surgery privately at a clinic in the United States.
