Hannah, whose husband is a Brazilian called Paulo, had already noticed that people couldn’t pronounce her partner’s name. But the situation got worse with her son.

Hannah chose Raul to christen her son, because she thought it would make sense in Portuguese and wouldn’t be difficult for Australians to pronounce – which was a mistake.

“My mother came to visit us at the hospital and asked his name, and I said ‘Raul’. She said ‘Rorl. Rorl?’ Given the situation, the couple decided to change the spelling of their son’s name to Raoul, but people continue to pronounce it incorrectly.
