Serasa gives advice for planning summer holidays

It’s not enough to simply define your destination, pack your bags and leave. It takes planning.

In recent research, the Evening has released data on the habits of Brazilians in planning their next summer holidays.

The survey “Financial planning for summer holidays”, carried out in collaboration with the Opinion Box institute, reveals that 92% of respondents consider it very important to plan their finances when travelling.

One piece of advice, for example, is to compare the prices of services before the trip. As much as possible, anticipating expenses, purchasing tickets and booking accommodation in advance can also help you save money.

“Those who start saving, taking study trips and buying tickets in advance will have even more peace of mind to enjoy their trips without headaches,” suggests Clara Aguiar, financial education specialist at Serasa.

As the research also highlights, 3 out of 10 Brazilians have already fallen into debt due to a holiday trip. Clara therefore warns that “financial control must not be left aside”.

For her, financial organization tools, such as spreadsheets, apps or even a good old notebook, help to write down all her expenses. And this applies not only to increased costs, such as plane tickets and accommodation, but also to that innocent ice cream on the beach.

Summer vacation plans

The survey also revealed that, in the 2023/2024 period, 4 out of 10 Brazilians intend to travel, plans that have begun to be made in the last six months, according to 63% of those interviewed.

Of the 36% of respondents who said they intended to travel in the coming months, 16% intend to do so this December. 13% say they plan for January and 7% for February.

Most intend to spend more than R$2,000 on vacation, in December, January or February, the budget of which will be used mostly for food and tours. The amounts will generally be divided among the travelers or paid in full by a single person.

While almost 50% want to go to sunny, beach destinations, in December only 26% head inland. However, respondents are divided between “traveling to other cities in my state” (48%) and to other Brazilian states (47%).

In January the situation changes. 62% are looking for “sun and beach” and only 17% intend to go inland.

The survey carried out in November interviewed 6,667 people over the age of 16 online, from all social classes and regions of Brazil.

Most popular destinations in Brazil in 2024

In another survey published by the Booking.com platform, Brazilians provided clues about their favorite domestic destinations for 2024, based on the number of bookings.

Interestingly, among the trends for next year, none of these will affect the coastal regions of the country, as is usually expected when it comes to Brazilian travelers.

Olympiaa destination famous for its water parks and thermal waters, 440 kilometers from the capital San Paolo, it is among the most sought after, followed by Foz do Iguaçu (PR) e Petropolis (RJ).

Following the desire for internalization, Minas Gerais Poços de Caldas AND Black gold are other destinations for 2024. Tourism in the capitals, however, should take place in Brasilia (DF), known for civic and architectural tourism, e Therese (PI), bathed by two rivers that cross the city: Poti and Parnaíba.

The list ends with Blumenau (SC), home to buildings with German-inspired architecture and the Oktoberfest, the famous German beer festival.
