Scott Duramax lists activities that can prepare your home to welcome the new year
As the end of the year approaches, it’s normal to take stock of the last 12 months, analyze what didn’t work, evaluate our results, contemplate our personal growth. We also reflect on what we want to achieve in the coming year, make plans, set goals and even perform rituals for personal renewal.
A survey conducted by Scott Duramax found that almost half of Brazilian men and women believe that keeping the house clean is also a form of self-care. Why not take advantage of this period, then, to organize your home, get rid of unused objects and encourage thorough cleaning? With this in mind, the reusable cloth brand has put together some tips to encourage thorough cleaning and prepare your home to welcome the new year.

Year-end cleaning is different from regular cleaning. It’s a longer process, requiring a more detailed look. Dedicate a few days in December to this task, make a list of tasks and create a cleaning schedule, so that the work is more organized and less tiring. Once the days have been defined, divide the cleaning and organization into rooms, starting from the internal parts – such as bedrooms, living room, bathrooms and kitchen -, and moving on to the external areas – such as the balcony, garden and garage.
Separate what no longer makes sense

This is the time to let go and give purpose to everything you no longer use. Clothes, shoes, accumulated documents, batteries that no longer work, broken toys and objects. Anything that you no longer need, is useless or does not represent an important memory can be donated, sent for recycling or discarded, as long as it is done correctly. Give space to what really matters.
Make small repairs

The window that doesn’t close properly, the door with the broken handle, the bottom of the drawer that has become loose, the fan that has stopped working and the faucet that keeps dripping. Take advantage of this moment to organize those small repairs that are always postponed in the rush of everyday life. Recovering the function of unused objects also promotes the sensation of renewing the environment, of recovering one’s space.
Clean the corners that are not used in daily cleaning

Wash curtains, carpets, blankets, duvets, bedspreads, pillows. Clean light fixtures, lamps, fans, vases, cabinets, wardrobes, refrigerator, freezer, stove, windows, doors, jambs, walls and mirrors. Be careful when cleaning the floor, whether it is mopping, waxing or vacuuming. Sanitize toilets, showers and taps. Take care of the garden, prune the plants, fertilize the soil, remove any parasites. Inspect the roof and remove leaves from the gutter. Cleaning the environment in which you live can be a tangible way to symbolize overcoming the past and prepare the ground for what is to come.
Renew the furniture

Finally, you can also take advantage of leaving the house completely clean and organized to make small changes to the decor, such as updating the photos in the frames, changing the fabric of the sofa or hanging a new painting. Make your home reflect your moment and your wishes for the new year.
