Learn how to properly care for your plants and flowers so they survive hot, dry summer weather
Who cultivates plants and flowers At home you should pay attention to plants in summer, okay? After all, not all species tolerate high temperatures well and, therefore, require special care. Thus, landscape designers Luiz Gustavo and Luiz Felipe have separated the 4 main cares for plants and flowers during the season to make your home greener and full of life. Watch:
1. Irrigation
Due to the hot and dry summer climate, plants and flowers need more water. However, you need to know how to balance things. Remember: over- or under-watering can cause root rot and cause other diseases in the planting. So, water your plants frequently, but in moderation.
“Always dip your finger into the soil to check the soil moisture. Also, check whether the saucers or drawers have excess water after watering,” advises Luiz Gustavo.
Another tip is to spray water on the leaves gently and evenly to ensure the plant absorbs the nutrients it needs to grow. The important is avoid watering the garden during periods of intense sun. “Let it water early in the morning or late afternoon,” advises landscape designer Luiz Felipe.
2. Home care
Due to the different position of the sun in summer, It’s important to keep an eye on whether your plants are receiving more or less sunlight than they need.. Be careful, especially those that cannot get direct sun on their leaves. One idea suggested by landscapers is to change the pots so that there is a balance between light and shadow.
3. Pruning
Another tip is do not carry out more drastic pruning in the summer period, as autumn is a better season for this purpose. Therefore, just carry out routine pruning or cleaning of dry leaves and branches and leave the more complex ones for later. Everything has its right moment!
4. Fertilization
If you have flowering plants in your garden, take advantage of this time of year to fertilize them organic fertilizers. And, regardless of the season, always watch out for pests and weeds in pots.
