The exhibition is set up at MIS Experience […]
It’s all there, as you’ve always seen on TV: the living room of ‘his’ house in Madruga, Dona Florinda’s churros and, of course, the unmistakable barrel of Chaves.
But in “Keys: The Exposition” There’s also what you’ve always imagined, but never got to see.
To celebrate 40 years of Chaves, Brazil, the MIS Experience, in Sao Paulo, inaugurated this unprecedented exhibition on Friday 5 January, considered the largest exhibition dedicated to the ‘Chaves’ and ‘Chapolin’ series, two of the most popular series creations of Mexican comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños.
In a space of more than a thousand m², the visitor moves through 26 sets with more than two thousand pieces donated by the Bolaños family, including personal objects, props and costumes of its two most famous characters.
“Some are authentic and others are ‘authentic replicas,’ as some pieces fall apart in their own production. But it was also an archaeological job to search for images to complete the exhibition,” said MIS Experience general director André Sturm, during the inauguration of the exhibition.
To give you an idea of the scale of this project, which involved almost a thousand people, in the pre-production phase the exhibition took two years to complete and had been set up in Sao Paulo since November last year.
“It’s a journey into the world of Chaves and the Chespirito group. It will truly be a step back in time,” says Felipe Pinheiro, of Boldly Go Entretenimento, one of the directors of the exhibition.

Chaves’ “son”.
One of the highlights of the exhibition opening event, in which the Travel by fare Mexican actor and comedian Roberto Gómez Fernández, son of Chespirito, as Bolaños was known, was present.
“It’s a truly special day for me and the whole family. What I saw inside exceeded my expectations. Not only because of the grandeur of a museum exhibition, but because I understood the essence of Roberto’s work [pai] and the characters,” Fernández said emotionally.
More than a well-arranged exhibition full of bibliographical data on the creator of Chaves and Chapolin, this is the opportunity to delve into the recreated scenes in detail, such as the two courtyards of the village, Dona Florinda’s restaurant and even the tamarind juices from Chaves, strategically positioned next to Quico’s exuberant juice cart.

Another strong point of the exhibition is the recreation of scenarios never shown before in the entire history of the series, such as the interior of the house of Dona Clotilde, better known as the Witch of 71, with her cauldron, her spells and the feared cat Satan.
Not even Acapulco, which became Guarujá in Brazil, was left out.
The exhibit also recreates part of one of the most remembered episodes of the series, when the characters travel to that Mexican location. At the MIS Experience, for example, the public will be able to see a small replica of the swimming pool of the Hotel Acapulco Continental, where the scenes of the 1977 episode were filmed.
In an exclusive statement to Travel by fareFernández also spoke about the international fame of Chaves which, since its launch in 1973, has achieved excellent ratings and won fans in several Latin American countries.

In Brazil alone, “the country where Chaves is the most popular in the world,” according to Sturm, the program aired from 1984 to 2020, on stations such as SBT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Multishow.
Fernández believes that, despite the linguistic differences, Mexicans and Brazilians are very similar, hence the great success of programs such as Chaves and Chapolim, in Brazil.
“The village of Chaves is a microcosm in which we can identify not only in a neighborhood in Mexico, but also in some favelas here in Brazil. It is a microcosm where there are contrasts. What my father did very well was to identify the human condition, which in Brazil is very similar to ours”, he concludes.
