Avoid chafing between your legs in summer with these tips

Common among those with larger thighs, this is a problem that gets worse as summer arrives; see how to avoid and treat

Summer is the time to enjoy the warmer days! The big problem is that for those with thicker thighs, this period becomes very unpleasant due to the friction between the legs. This causes irritation, redness and even diaper rash, making it difficult to wear shorts, skirts and dresses.

According to dermatological beautician Patrícia Elias, this friction worsens with sweat and humidity. “When these rashes come into contact with moisture they get worse, so it is not advisable, for example, to wear damp gym clothes for a long time. This behavior can lead to more severe rashes and even darkening of the skin,” he points out.

Contrary to what many people think, friction between your legs is not necessarily due to being overweight. However, the specialist warns when this problem presents with other symptoms. “For the people who are excessive darkening of this region and overweightit could be a sign of insulin resistance and in this case you need to consult a doctor,” he says.

Now, if you are part of the team of people who have not given up and are looking for solutions to enjoy the period without suffering from diaper rash, here are some tips from the beautician. Check it out below:

1. Use vegetable oils

In addition to being a natural option, plant oils can be used on already injured skin, preventing friction between the legs. Among the most recommended are: dog rose, sweet almond, macadamia and passion fruitall rich in vitamins A, C, D and E. The recommendation is to always use it in the evening.

2. Choose clothes made from lightweight fabrics

This is an important measure, as it helps the skin breathe. In this sense, the beautician points out that the use of synthetic fabrics can be harmful, as they pad the thigh area and leave sweat and humidity trapped. If thicker fabrics are unavoidable, let your skin breathe as soon as possible. When it’s time to sleep, he wears shorts with a light, cold fabric to avoid friction and heat.

3. Talc can be your ally

Despite the controversy, the product actually helps dry out the area and reduce friction between the legs. However, talcum powder can cause your skin to turn white and stain your clothes. Patricia therefore recommends the use of creamy or liquid talcum powders to avoid this type of problem.

5. Moisturize the area after showering

And to avoid that feeling of sticky skin, the beautician recommends using rapidly absorbing body moisturizers. On warmer days you can choose to use creams with a neutral texture.

“In addition to body oils, I recommend wearing shorts or shapewear shorts under skirts and dresses, as they are great choices when it comes to protecting your thighs, always remembering to change the pieces more often per day, as they are synthetic and unfortunately can increase excess humidity, especially in summer,” suggests Patricia.

My thighs already hurt: what to do?

According to the specialist, the ideal is to try not to further irritate the skin to reduce the discomfort of the lesions. Therefore the recommendation is:

  • avoid contact with hot water;
  • favor neutral soaps;
  • hydration in the area of the rash to restore the skin barrier.

“A suggestion is to wet a towel with frozen chamomile and let it act for a few minutes. Then, use a diaper rash ointment mixed with aloe vera gel”, concludes the beautician.
