Well, when we said that this dessert conquers generations, it was not a joke, given that the history of this recipe is older than the colonization of Brazil!
Born in Portuguese convents, the original recipe called for almonds and sugar syrup. This is why it was called the nun’s kiss! In fact, according to the History Magazine of the National Library, this name betrays the lack of vocation of some nuns. For example, among the fervent devotees, there were those placed in a convent by their parents, as they were second-born (i.e. the second daughter of the family) and had a smaller dowry or even those who had been secluded by their parents. husbands, due to bad behavior. .
The story is strongly written between the lines of the most traditional recipes! And, with the kiss, it is even more so: with the arrival of the recipe in Brazil through the Portuguese court, the recipe underwent some changes. Like this, almonds were replaced by coconut, which was more abundant here. And, moreover, condensed milk replaced sugar syrup in the 20th century, when it definitively conquered the entire national territory.
