Gustavo Iglesias, from BEC Bar, comments on the origins and versions of this typical Brazilian drink
The beat is a 100% national drink that combines fruit, ice, condensed milk and the spirit of your choice. The most traditional version uses cachaça, but smoothies with vodka and sake are also delicious!
Gustavo Iglesias, co-owner of BEC Bar, says the drink was created in the 1960s and was called a shake because it was made in a blender. “It was a natural evolution of the caipirinha, which also contains fruit, distillate and a sweet base (rapadura, sugar, etc.),” he comments.
How to create the perfect rhythm?
The ideal is to use the same proportion of fruit, sweet and alcoholic base, i.e. the same quantity of fruit, condensed milk and the distillate you prefer. However, this is a very democratic drink, if you want a sweeter drink just use more condensed milk, if you want it more fruity or alcoholic go deeper into the ingredient, it depends on the customer’s taste!
To blend this drink, you can use a blender or mixer.
