Will you play on the blocks? How to eat correctly and avoid post-carnival “piriri”.

The expert gives advice on evaluating street food, what to avoid and what to prefer, to enjoy the street Carnival in complete tranquility

How does the body look before, during and after days and days of intense physical activity and lots of carnival fun? What role does food play in this process? The nutritionist Ana Paula Braun guarantees that at the moment of the calculation the question is one of the most important, it is almost a playoff criterion between those who will do well and those who will do badly after the carnival.

“First of all, our body does not know that it is the weekend, much less Carnival. So moderation must always be considered in every way, in physical effort, in alcoholic beverages, in food, in everything,” says the professional.

Where to eat at Carnival?

One of the main concerns of those who want to play hard and spend hours on the blocks must be where they will eat. Street food often ends up being convenient, practical and even necessary due to the lack of options, but the advice is to be careful when choosing a stall. Observing the location, if it is not close to waste and sewage, is essential. There is also the clothing of those who prepare it, if the same person who handles the snack handles the money without using gloves and adopting adequate hygiene.

“The preservation of foods is another important point, which means that they must be refrigerated, protected from the sun, with a lid, are things that in a few minutes of observation the person can already evaluate. Foods that undergo a cooking process are it’s always better because the heating and temperature help eliminate bacteria and other things that could then cause discomfort”, reveals the functional nutrition specialist.

Some healthier options to eat on the go: dried and dehydrated fruit, nuts, peanuts, fresh fruit, açaí, cooked corn, natural sandwiches as long as they are well preserved and look good, but avoid mayonnaise and ketchup.

«And don’t go to the party on an empty stomach, eat, but eat light foods, avoid fried foods and very heavy foods. Choose a natural sandwich, a yogurt with fruit and cereals, a protein bar and drink plenty of fluids before, during and after the blocks. Remember that if you drink a lot of water between drinks, you reduce the chance of having a hangover by up to 80%”explains the nutritionist.

Stay hydrated

Regarding the heat and high temperatures, Ana Paula first of all emphasizes the importance of keeping hydrated, both before and after, but especially during the celebrations. Water, coconut water and isotonic drinks are good options. Also use sunscreen, considering the possibility of reapplying it during the day. Light clothing, caps or visors and shade when possible are other recommendations from the health and wellness specialist.
