Tupis cuisine
With a menu created by chef Henrique Gilberto, Cozinha Tupis seeks to carefully reinterpret techniques, flavors and ingredients that inspire the gastronomic culture of central Belo Horizonte, in a tribute to the cuisine of the region.
Available from Wednesday to Friday in the evening and from Saturday to Sunday from lunch to dinner, à la carte dishes and snacks are available. Among these, the liver mousse with jabuticaba accompanied by crunchy jiló and bread (R$ 41), the tripe with green beans and Portuguese sausage also accompanied by bread (R$ 45) and the lightly spiced chicken paçoquinha (R$ 47 ).
Another option is the so-called “lunch”, offered from 11.30am to 3pm, from Tuesday to Friday. In this case the “PF of the day” is served, which varies every day depending on the fresh ingredients purchased at Mercado Novo and Central. With a single price of R$36.90, it always comes with one meat and five side dishes.

Eager oven
Also designed by chef Henrique Gilberto, Forno da Saudade is a Neapolitan-style pizzeria that values the highest quality and originality in its dishes, with ingredients produced by the restaurant itself or by close partners, from pasta to beers.
With a beautiful view of the center of Belo Horizonte, you can enjoy delicious local dishes both at the tables and on the stools of Praça do Zigue-Zague, in one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city. For starters, it’s worth trying the burrata with balsamic-roasted strawberries (R$58) or the house starters, which include olives and capers, ash butter, caponata and sardela (R$39). Both accompanied by homemade bread.
As for the pizzas, five flavors are available, ranging from R$54 to R$62: margherita, pepperoni, artisan sausage, heart of palm Bolognese, chicken with cream cheese, aubergine and a vegan option – with smoked mushrooms, chicory, pará chestnuts and dijon mustard sauce. In addition, focaccias (which they call “butchers”) are also served in four flavors: caponata, caramelized onion and gruyere, anchovies and mortadella and lemon. Each butcher costs R$24.

Calm
Chef Caio Soter defines it as “home cooking, authorial and inventive, which stops time”. Selected for the 50 best discoveries in 2024, it is a highlight of BH gastronomy.
Some dishes suggested by the chef are Minas Gerais snails (R$69.60) – with duck gizzards with herb and garlic butter, accompanied by artisanal baguette -, sun-dried meat tartare with pickled cucumbers, baru nuts , pequi aioli and angu tiles
(R$ 72.80) and the Pork Wellington with pumpkin puree, toasted okra and pork sauce
(R$ 129.60). There is also a tasting menu which costs R$330.
For dessert, Soter recommends the canastra cheese crème brulee with citrus guava paste and house-made cheese bread, which costs R$41.60.

Santo Antonio cuisine
Featuring delicious signature dishes by chef Juliana Duarte, Cozinha Santo Antônio is located in a beautiful corner house and is open Tuesday to Friday for lunch and Saturday and Sunday from 12.30pm to 5.30pm.
Some dishes bear in their name a tribute to important figures in history and even to books, such as “Ensaio para Frieiro”, homage to the author of the first study on the nutrition of miners, published in 1966, in which chicken legs and thighs are used of organic chicken, masked beans, criollo angu corn, crispy cabbage, okra and popcorn (R$ 69), and “Minha vida de Menina”, inspired by the book of the same name by Helena Morley, pseudonym of Alice Caldeira Brant, a girl who lived in Diamantina in the 19th century and that “on the sacred days of sacrifice” they served cod with angu, beans and pumpkin (R$ 112).
For those who want to try a bit of everything, there is also the three-part tasting menu called “mini-menu” (R$ 120), which is served in two versions with three mini-portions of menu dishes.
