Do you spend a lot of time cleaning, but still live in chaos? You may be making these common mistakes when organizing your space!
Don’t be discouraged, it happens to the best of us. Here’s what you shouldn’t do if you want to keep your house clean is a simple and easy task, and everything you need can be found instantly, even if the last time you used it was several years ago.
Buy tools to organize your space before decluttering it
“The most common mistake I see is not poor furniture placement or workspace organization, but purchasing containers, blankets, stickers and organizers before decluttering . Sorting things into “throw away,” “donate,” and “keep” piles isn’t just about getting rid of what’s unnecessary: it helps you understand what you actually have. When you don’t start this way, containers only make things worse by becoming extra items around the house or remaining only half full,” says space organizer Carolyn Rogers.
Ignore dimensions
“When it comes to organizing a space, size is everything. Baskets that looked really cute in the catalog will look horrible if they barely fit on your shelf. An organizer purchased for the cabinet under the sink, but which does not fit there, is useless. A container that turns out to be too big and therefore remains half empty only wastes useful space. Please never guess what will work for you – just measure every damn drawer before parting with your cash if you want to avoid wasting space,” advises Carolyn.
