The dream of living surrounded by plants can be realized by those with little space. These two vertical garden designs give good ideas in this regard:
Assembly game
This weekend in São Sebastião, SP, forestry engineers Micael Rondon and Renata Meloni created a flowerbed with species that require watering only once every seven days, such as golden rain, anthurium and red bromeliad.
To create the unusual ladder-shaped planter, all you had to do was place 28 concrete blocks with two holes (39 x 14 x 19 cm) on top of each other – there is no type of fastening between them! “The structure is approximately 1.50 m high, the limit for safe assembly,” explains Micael.
The parts without plants were filled with gravel. Those used as pots had perforated bottoms and obtained a layer of pebbles for drainage, in addition to the soil.
Simple and easy dashboard

The compact balcony of the journalist Marco Antonio Araujo, from the capital of São Paulo, has gained its green corner with the arrangement proposed by the gardener Carol Costa.
“Because they are wind-resistant, plants like pearl necklace and staghorn have earned a place above the guardrail,” explains Carol. The pots close to the ground, however, were reserved for plants that do not tolerate direct exposure to the sun, such as peperomia and tilandsia.
The vertical panel was made with a bamboo lattice (0.80 x 1.20 m) fixed to the masonry, on which coconut fiber sheets were fixed. Most of them were already equipped with crescent-shaped vases, made of the same material (one specimen measuring 40 x 40 cm, with two vases). Others, however, were purchased flat (1 x 1 m) and required the attachment of separate containers.
Taking care of this vegetable garden is not a job: the seedlings have received slow-release fertilizer, which disperses the nutrients little by little, over a prolonged period: in this way they always remain strong and attractive!
