The types most sought after by customers are those for job search, study and retirement.
In 2023, Portugal had at least 400 thousand Brazilians, a number that continues to grow, given the queue of at least 12 thousand people waiting for entry authorization, in addition to the demand that continues to be intense in Brazil.
This strong and growing demand has been felt by the industry. Clube do Passaporte, an international consultancy firm specializing in obtaining European citizenship and providing visa advice for Portugal, has seen, between 2022 and 2023, a 600% increase in demand from clients, especially for visas for job search, students and pensioners.
“Brazilians easily lead the list of foreign students in Portugal. But all types of visas have increased and the opportunities that come with them have also increased. Thinking about Brazil-Portugal and business, activities such as investments, financial applications, contracts and business internationalization have been areas with rapid growth, of 600%, and we continue to grow organically month after month,” comments Gabriel Ezra Mizrahi, lawyer and founding partner of the consultancy firm.
New types of visas
Part of this demand is a direct reflection of two visas created in 2022: one for job seekers and the other for digital nomads, both focused on attracting more foreigners and meeting demand in the Portuguese job market.
But these new forms of entry are not the only factors. The progressive increase of Brazilians in the country reflects the greater amount of information and greater familiarity with the destination country and the immigration process on the part of those interested.
For 2024, expectations remain positive, in the belief that the Portuguese country will follow this ascending rhythm and trend, being seen as a gateway to the European Union and as a “goal” for Brazilians seeking to change their lives, residence, career advancement, differentiated income or undertaking and receiving investments from Portuguese companies.
“Portugal is the trend of the moment, both for moving, studying, working, investing and receiving investments,” he concludes.
