The tattoo artist talks about the different types of tattoos and how to choose the least painful spot for the tattoo
Before getting a tattoo, many people think a lot what art to do and where on the body. After all, it’s something that will stay on your skin forever. However, especially for those who are getting their first tattoo, knowing how to choose a tattoo can be a little difficult and time-consuming.
There are many tattoo styles currently in existence. Old school, new school, pointillism, geometric, minimalist, oriental, tribal, maori, watercolor, realism, biomechanics and many more. Therefore, it is even difficult to know which is the most interesting.
Also, many have doubts about which part of the body will hurt the least when getting a tattoo. Therefore, tattoo artist Douglas Shaz, owner of the Shaz Tattoo Ink studio, comments below how to choose a tattoo in a way that makes sense to you and doesn’t cause regret:
The choice of art
Defining the ideal design is not easy, at least for most people. “The first thing to choose is the art, so you won’t regret it later. You should think that this design represents you today and in the future,” advises the tattoo artist.
Think about whether you want to have a design that means something to you or just one that you find beautiful and start choosing from there. Also think about the desired size. Some people prefer to start with a smaller size to ensure they like it and feel pain for less time, however this is not a rule.
Some models may be trending right now, but you have to be careful not to choose them on impulse and regret it later. Also decide on the style or type of line you want.
“The most sought after are the ‘black and grey’ style, in which I specialize, and also the ‘fine line’, which are delicate, with thin lines. There are other styles such as blackwork, colourful, lettering which are increasing in question,” Douglas points out.
It is worth remembering that choosing a tattoo artist is also essential and, at this point, the professional recommends researching what that person’s art is, to see if it suits the desired style. He also checks whether the place is a regulated space that follows all standards.
Less painful body part
The parts of the body that hurt more or less may depend a little from person to person, especially because individuals have different resistance to pain.
However, Douglas says that, in the style that works the most (black and grey), the most popular place to get tattooed is the arm. Areas such as ribs, chest and biceps are more painful.
